Manchester City defender Willie Donachie and Newcastle United centre forward Malcolm McDonald look like they’re praying for guidance during the League Cup final at Wembley.
Donachie’s prayers were answered as City won the match 2-1 thanks to a superb goal from an overhead kick by Dennis Tueart. The other City scorer was Peter Barnes.
Scottish international Donachie notched up 351 league appearances for the Blues from 1968 to 1980, scoring two goals. He left City to play for Portland Timbers in the USA.
Donachie made his senior debut for Scotland against Peru in April 1972. He won 35 senior caps.

Malcolm Allison has much to ponder after returning to Manchester City as manager.
Chairman Peter Swales brought the Blues’ former assistant manager back from Crystal Palace with a sizeable war chest to buy new players – but troubled times lay ahead.
Allison sold crowd favourites Gary Owen and Peter Barnes and bought midfielder Steve Daley from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a British record fee of £1.45 million.
Daley turned out to be an expensive flop and Allison left in 1980 after getting into a verbal spat with his successor John Bond.
