December 3, 1986:

Coronation Street stars Sean Wilson and Sally Ann Matthews pose for an early press shot in their new character roles.
Wilson, from Ashton-under-Lyne, joined the cast in 1985 as Martin Platt, who eventually married Gail Tilsley. In 1986, however, his girlfriend was Jenny Bradley (Matthews). She was the daughter of villainous Alan Bradley who tried to kill his wife Rita (Barbara Knox).
Matthews, born in Oldham, started life as a papergirl on the Street and stayed until March 1991. She returned in a tense kidnap drama from February to June 1915, and became a regular again in January 2016.

November 17, 1966:

Salford-born actor Albert Finney returns to Manchester to film a scene for the movie Charlie Bubbles in an amusement arcade alongside co-star Colin Blakely. The film also featured Liza Minnelli and Billie Whitelaw.
Based on Salford playwright Shelagh Delaney’s original work, the movie told the story of a hard-living factory worker juggling relationships with a married woman and another pregnant with his child.
Among his many acting roles, Finney starred in two musicals – Scrooge and Annie, directed by John Huston. He also sang in Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride.


November 19, 1969:

Living the dream in suburban Manchester! A homes exhibition displays the latest in modern electrical appliances – with 1960s price tags to match.
A portable television retailed at £83. 10s 0d, while an electric oven cost £180. A portable record player came in at £32 while a tumble dryer sold for £115.
One of cheapest items on offer, the two-bar electric fire, was marked at £15. 15s 0d. It would probably have been displayed as 15Gns or 15 guineas when on sale.
