December 10, 1949:
Manchester United attacker James Delaney is foiled by Fulham goalkeeper Hugh Kelly during the First Division clash between the two clubs at a muddy Craven Cottage.
Helping to stifle the attack are Fulham defenders Joe Bacuzzi, Jim Taylor and Pat Beasley. It must be early in the game as their white shirts are still relatively clean! Fulham went on to win 1-0.
Outside right Delaney signed from Celtic for £4,000 in 1946. He helped United win the 1948 FA Cup and made 184 appearances for the club, scoring 28 goals. He was capped 15 times for Scotland.
December 19, 1991:
Actor Johnny Briggs poses for the press at the 1991 Coronation Street Christmas party.
Briggs played factory owner Mike Baldwin on the Granada-produced soap for 30 years from October 1976 to April 2006. He was famously involved in a love triangle with Ken Barlow (William Roache) and Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride).
Away from the Street, Briggs appeared in the TV programmes The Persuaders, Crossroads, the Saint and No Hiding Place as well as a number of Carry On movies.

The unwanted pets were photographed at Manchester Dogs’ Home in Collyhurst as part of a feature for the M.E.N.
