Our popular nostalgia quiz this week focuses on Sale playwright and screen-writer Robert Bolt and the stars who featured in his impressive list of movies.
The screenplays for A Man for All Seasons, Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago were all written by Bolt, who was always drawn to characters at odds with their times.
Two of the most famous were Sir Thomas More, who refused to condone Henry VIII’s split from the Roman Catholic Church, and First World War soldier Colonel T. E. Lawrence.
More was the central figure of Bolt’s brilliant play A Man for All Seasons while Lawrence was the hero of Bolt’s script for David Lean’s epic 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia.
